Reza Barati’s work highlighted in the Journal of Petroleum Technology

The June 1, 2017 issue of the Journal of Petroleum Technology is focused on Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) Operations, and Dr. Reza Barati’s collaborative work is the main feature. Last April, his team, including himself and Steve Pennell, Michael Maston, and Mark Linroth from Kinder Morgan, presented their findings at the Society of Petroleum Engineering (SPE) Improved Oil Recovery Conference in Tulsa, OK, and it is these finding that are now being spotlighted. Their research led to the improvement of one of the largest CO2 injection projects ever done!

The title of the associated paper is “Overview of CO2 Injection and WAG Sensitivity in SACROC, and it “presents an overview of the SACROC Unit's activity focusing on different CO2 injection and WAG projects that have made the SACROC Unit one of the most successful CO2 injection projects in the world. The main objective of this work was to review CO2 injection and injection rate losses due to the CO2 /WAG miscible displacement process in the SACROC Unit and recommend an injection strategy for WAG-sensitive patterns.”

The Journal of Petroleum Technology is the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ flagship magazine, and they present authoritative briefs and features on technology advancements in exploration and production, oil, and gas industry issues, and news about SPE and its members.

We want to send out a big Thank You to Prof. Barati for bringing attention to the revolutionary work being done in the field of EOR here at KU!
