KU Energy Council

What is the KU Energy Council?

The purpose in creating the KU Energy Council is to develop a coherent approach at the University to the many facets of energy: its capture and use. The group will be concerned with issues ranging from the novel techniques for recovery of gas, oil, and coal to newer techniques exploiting renewable biomass for fuels and for chemical feedstocks. Environmental impact will also be a significant component. Since transportation is a major consumer of energy, ways to effectively provide energy compatible with these needs will also need to be considered. It will further be important to establish links with industry within the State, but also outside, and to be cognizant of funding opportunities that will enable us to apply existing and harvest new expertise.

Our mission is to

  • Promote the Unviersity of Kansas as a resource for high quality energy research and education.
  • Expand the current portfolio of energy research at KU through the development of new partnerships and collaborations
  • Increase collaboration with major industries (oil, gas, biofules, engines, and automotive, generators, construction).
  • Increase the research income for energy research from public and private sources
  • Promote visible research outputs in energy subjects
